Leader’s Manual

LEADER'S ACTIONS EXPLAINED

1.    Set out materials. The necessary materials include a guest attendance sheet and a couple of pencils, a coin dish for donations, and the People Game brochures containing the rules and procedures. These will be set out at the entrance in any convenient way. Also, be sure that you have enough copies of the Game. The host or hostess will take care of refreshments.

2.    Greet people as they arrive. As people come in, make them welcome. Have them sign the guest list. Hand them a brochure and point out the instructions on the first page. Also, indicate refreshments in the dining area.

3.    Announce that the game will begin soon. Be sure to give everyone a five minute warning before the game starts so they can get refreshments before beginning.

4.    Introduction. Introduce yourself. Indicate the brochure and go over pages two and three, the Purposes, Description, and Rules, either from memory or by reading them aloud with the group.

5.    The First Shuffle. (See chapter titled "The Shuffle")

6.    Group Set. (See chapter titled "Group Sets")

7.    The Second Shuffle. (See chapter titled "The Shuffle")

8.    Introduce Set 1. Mention the name of the Game and read over the introductory paragraph on the Game Sheet. It is not necessary to stress the book, but the philosophy and the brief description of the questions should be indicated so the people have some idea of the significance of the questions.

Explain the routine. The person who is holding the paper starts by asking the first question. When he feels in touch with his partners answer, he acknowledges by handing him the paper. His partner then asks him the very same question in return. They continue on in this way, passing the questions back and forth as they continue down the list. Stress that the person asking the question holds the paper and that the paper is constantly passed back and forth. They have six questions and when they are finished with them they are on their own until the end of the set.

Read through "How To Play" in the brochure. Indicate that these are not rules but helpful suggestions to get the most out of the Game. Answer any questions they might have and let them start.
