HOST REQUIREMENTS

We have found that there are a few necessary requirements for a People Game Host or Hostess. These are based upon practical experience and are solely for the purpose of making the game run as well and as easily as possible.

First of all, the Host's home should have adequate space, the larger the better. It should be comfortable, preferably air-conditioned, and it should be ventilated well enough so that people can smoke if they have to. People should be allowed to smoke since there are still some people who, for some reason or another, can't seem to get along without it. Of course, it can be requested by the Host or Hostess that smoking be held to a minimum. Also, the Host's home should be fairly centrally located.

The Host of Hostess must be able to get along easily with people and must have no qualms about people remaining as late as 11:15 P.M. The purpose of the Games is to bring people into contact with one another and once they've met, they should be allowed a certain reasonable period of time to get better acquainted before they leave. It's quite important, therefore, that the Host or Hostess has an easygoing nature and gets along well with people and with groups. If the Host or Hostess is uncomfortable about anything, the group will tend to feel uncomfortable also.

The Host or Hostess must feel all right about having his or her name and phone number in the Newsletter. Many people are unable to RSVP early and should be allowed to drop in no matter how late they call.

Also, it is best to have a Host or Hostess who is amenable to having several People Games in a row once each week & preferably on the same evening of each week. The Games were designed as a series and experience has proven that about one-third (1/3) of the attendees will attend regularly if it's done. The continuity that is provided builds up attendance, enhances the communication level and multiplies the enjoyment of the participants. The Games run best when they are done once a week at the same place for four (4), eight (8), or twelve (12) weeks.

Of course, being the Host or Hostess can be a great deal of fun. It is an especially good opportunity for meeting many new people, also for providing a valuable service to the organization. The Host or Hostess has the extra freedom to play or not and make many friends of those people who return to the various different games of the series.
